Step-by-Step Instructions

1. The Main Head and Body (White Yarn)

We will create the head and body in one continuous, seamless piece to make assembly easier!

  • Round 1: Make a magic ring and work 6 sc into it. (6)

  • Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (12)

  • Round 3: 1 sc, inc - repeat around. (18)

  • Round 4: 2 sc, inc - repeat around. (24)

  • Round 5: 3 sc, inc - repeat around. (30)

  • Rounds 6-11: Sc in each stitch around for 6 rounds. (30)

  • Round 12: 3 sc, dec - repeat around. (24) This creates the neck!

  • Round 13: 3 sc, inc - repeat around. (30) Now we are building the chubby belly.

  • Rounds 14-17: Sc in each stitch around. (30)

  • Round 18: 3 sc, dec - repeat around. (24)

  • Round 19: 2 sc, dec - repeat around. (18)

  • Stuff the head and body firmly with fiberfill!

  • Round 20: 1 sc, dec - repeat around. (12)

  • Round 21: Dec around. (6) Fasten off, weave the tail through the front loops of the remaining stitches, and pull tight to close the bottom.

2. The Eye Patches (Make 2, Black Yarn)

  • Chain 4.

  • Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, work 1 sc, 1 hdc, and 3 sc into the last chain.

  • Working down the opposite side of the chain, work 1 hdc and 2 sc into the last chain.

  • Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Insert the safety eyes directly through the center of these black patches, then attach them to the white head (around round 7 or 8) before securing the safety backings. Sew the edges of the patches flat against the face.

3. The Ears (Make 2, Black Yarn)

  • Make a magic ring with 5 sc. (5)

  • Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (10)

  • Fasten off, leaving a tail. Flatten the ear into a semi-circle and sew it securely to the top corners of the head.

4. The Arms and Legs (Make 4, Black Yarn)

  • Round 1: Make a magic ring with 6 sc. (6)

  • Rounds 2-5: Sc in each stitch around. (6)

  • Fasten off, leaving a tail. Stuff the limbs very lightly so they stay floppy. Sew the arms just below the neck line, and sew the legs pointing forward at the base of the body.

Weave in any remaining yarn tails, and your adorable chunky panda is ready for a hug!
