Step-by-Step Instructions
1. The 3D Daisy Center (Yellow Yarn)
To get that beautiful raised texture, we use a Popcorn stitch for the center of each daisy.
Round 1: Start with a magic ring. Chain 3 (counts as your first dc). Work 4 more dc into the ring. Drop the loop from your hook, insert your hook into the top of the initial chain 3, grab the dropped loop, and pull it through. This is your first Popcorn stitch! Chain 2.
Create 7 more Popcorn stitches in the magic ring, chaining 2 after each one. Slip stitch to the top of the first Popcorn to close. Fasten off the yellow yarn. You should have 8 raised bobbles.
2. The Daisy Petals (Cream Yarn)
Round 2: Attach your cream yarn into any chain-2 space. Chain 3, then work 2 dc into the same space. Chain 1.
Work 3 dc into the next chain-2 space, followed by a chain 1. Repeat this around the circle until you have 8 clusters of 3 dc. Slip stitch to the top of the first chain 3. Fasten off the cream yarn.
3. Squaring It Off (Pastel Green Yarn)
Now we turn our flower into a square!
Round 3: Attach the green yarn in any chain-1 space. Chain 4 (counts as a tr). Work 2 tr, chain 2, and 3 tr into the same space. This forms your first corner!
In the next chain-1 space, work 3 dc.
In the next chain-1 space, work a new corner: (3 tr, ch 2, 3 tr).
Repeat this pattern around, alternating between 3 dc on the sides and the tr clusters for the corners. Slip stitch to close and fasten off.
Repeat these three steps to make 13 identical squares.
4. Assembly and Handles
Layout: Arrange your 13 squares into a plus-sign or diamond layout to form the shape of a standard tote bag.
Seaming: Using your green yarn and a tapestry needle, whip-stitch or slip-stitch the squares together. Fold the bag in half and seam the sides to finish the body.
Handles: Attach the green yarn to the top peaks of the bag. Chain 60 (or until you reach your desired strap length), and attach to the opposite peak. Single crochet back across the chain to make the strap thick and sturdy. Repeat for the other side.
Weave in all your loose ends, and your textured 3D daisy tote is ready to use!
